Homemade Candy Dots

I used to LOVE eating these as a kid, and who would have thought they were so simple to make at home! What is so fun about these is that you can choose any color you'd like, and shape into small dots, big dots, hearts, you name it! A great activity to do with the kids!

Candy Dots

3 tablespoons meringue powder
4 cups (1 lb) powdered sugar
6 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
food coloring

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the meringue powder, powdered sugar, water and extract until stiff peaks form and icing loses its sheen. Divide into separate containers, depending on how many colors you plan to use. Mix in food coloring with rubber spatulas. Keep covered until ready to use.

Prepare piping bags by filling each bag with icing and cutting a small corner at the bottom of the plastic piping bag. Pipe dots onto the two triangles, following the dot pattern. Let stand for 2 minutes, then carefully remove and set aside to dry completely. Allow dots to dry overnight in the open air. I know, sounds silly but it takes awhile for them to dry out.
