Last night was the third episode of The Food Network Star! The ten remaining finalists divided into two teams, with each team creating a five-course menu for an experiential restaurant. I was the team captain because I had one of the best dishes from last week. Diners experienced a completely different environment for each course, such as an appetizer in the jungle and a main course in the desert. Each finalist created a video menu describing their dish for the diners, who will select which one they want to taste. Special guest Tyler Florence dined with Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay and helps decide which finalist is sent home.
My course was appetizer in the jungle. I made a seared skirt steak with a spicy aioli and a strawberry mango salsa. Here is the recipe for that delightful salsa that is great on steak, tacos, or as is served with chips.
10 strawberries, diced
1 mango, peeled and diced
1 poblano pepper, roasted and diced
1/2 red onion or 1 shallot, finely chopped
1/4 cup cilantro, finely chopped
3 tablespoons lime juice
salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper and lime juice to taste.
